ALBANY, GA. -- Officials with the Albany Fire Department has confirmed that a swarm of bees found in Albany are not the Africanized breed.

Back in June, authorities found the bees huddled on the corner of Flint and Madison Avenue downtown.

At that time they believed the insects displayed similar tendencies to the hostile Africanized honey bee.

The swarm was shipped off to the Department of Agriculture for testing and they confirmed the bees are of the European breed.

Officials said testing the insects is the only way to identify the breed.
