ALBANY, GA. -- Downtown merchants are working together to draw more people to the area.
In the Tuesday night Downtown Merchants Association meeting members addressed future Nights at D'town events, the Albany State University block party, set for October, and other social media outlets to spread the word about downtown events.
Since the Albany area has been hit with several daytime robberies within the last week and merchants want people to know that the downtown area is a safe place to visit.
“In any city you’re going to have a small margin of crime just because there is business going on. So you have to set that aside from creating a general scare about downtown,” said Downtown Merchants Association Vice President Tosh Sevier, “This is a great place to do business. We have great recreation. We have some wonderful facilities that we access downtown. It's a great place to be.”
He says their goal is to make downtown appeal to the people who live here as well as outsiders.
