ALBANY, GA -- The City of Albany is waiting to vote on a new 911 system, but until they have it up and running, they want to practice on Dougherty County’s Code Red system.

The city is willing to pay the $12,650 it would take to expand the system to include a crime package which would alert citizens of crime emergencies, such as escaped convicts or a murder suspect on the loose.

“If you have signed up for Code Red already, for the weather alerts, it is my understanding that you will also be, uh, you will not have to sign up again,” says City Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard.

The Dougherty County Commission will vote next week on whether to allow the city to share their Code Red services.
