ALBANY, GA -- A group of concerned citizens gathered at City Commissioner Jon Howard’s monthly meeting Saturday morning--the topic was feral cats.

Lynn Kennedy, who is heading up the initiative to reduce their numbers, spoke to the crowd, saying each cat owner should spay and neuter their pet, then identify them with either an id tag or a microchip.

She says there are actually more benefits to the chip.

“But a microchip doesn't get lost and it hardly ever fails. It's the size of a grain of rice, it's put into a syringe and put under the loose skin at the shoulders, doesn't move around, you run something like a barcode reader over there, bing! There's the number, you get all the relevant information,” says Kennedy.

There are a variety of ways to keep stray cats from entering your yard.

Kennedy strongly recommends Cat Scram, which is a motion detector and emits a high-pitched noise only cats can hear.

There are also several sprays you can use, visit this page to learn more.
