With a shortage of doctors and nurses, a panel of admissions personnel from local medical schools enlightened potential students on medical school

ALBANY, GA -- A local group of medical students helped arrange an event to help acclimate potential students to local medical schools.

Students from the Pathways program held a panel called “What’s up Doc?” Those thinking of joining the medical profession had an opportunity to speak with deans of admissions from Georgia medical schools, including Emory University School of Medicine, Georgia Health Sciences University, Mercer University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia Campus.

Those in the medical field say there’s a shortage of doctors and nurses, and they hope introducing potential students to the schools helps fill the void.

“The students here are from Southwest Georgia and the hope is that they can go to medical school and come back and practice in Southwest Georgia since that's where they have family, friends and ties,” says Pathways Student Luke Couch.
