ALBANY, GA. -- Southwest Georgia has been hit with rain, but officials say this will not change water sanctions.
A representative for Albany Water, Gas and Light Commission says whether it rains or not, water sanctions will stay in use because they're permanent restrictions.
She says people can use water any day of the week for anything living and growing starting at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 10:00 a.m. the next morning.
So far, no one has been fined since the sanctions have been put in place, but there is a penalty if the law is broken.
The first time is a $250 fine and we do cut your water off until it's paid. And the second time, it doubles to $450 and again,” said Albany Water, Gas, and Light Commission Assistant General Manager Lorie Farkas, “Until it's paid, the fine will be in place.”
She says there will be additional water restrictions will in January of 2012.
