ALBANY, GA. -- The family of Bruce Mullen sat ahead of all the Albany State University students who came to show support and remember their pupil. One leader of the student body says this memorial is about helping the family.
“We are having this program to help ease the pain of the family and show them that Albany State really cares about our students,” said ASU Student Government Association President Clarence Washington.
The family says they are reaching out to God to make sense of why this happened. Bruce's uncle flew back home from Afghanistan to attend the celebration of life ceremony as well as the funeral. He said while overseas he saw many young men die for their country, but this death was senseless. He believes it must have been in God's plan.
“God doesn't make any mistakes and through this God has the upper hand,” said Bruce Mullen’s uncle.
The mother says she thanks everyone for coming out and supporting her son. She says now is the time to start praying.
“I know why I can have peace, why I can be happy. See part of it is you can be sad for a little while because I lost my son but I am happy because my children are doing what God said first.” Said Mullen’s Mother.
She says this situation has shown her that she is blessed and strong. As the family continues to mourn the loss of their loved one, they say they know they're not alone.
