ALBANY, GA -- It's moving day for Major General James Kessler. The commanding general at Logistics Command at MCLB Albany is not only moving out, but moving up.

“To the Pentagon,” said Maj. Gen Kessler. “I'll be the assistant deputy commandant for facilities and as such will be responsible for the facilities and the infrastructure of bases and stations in the Marine Corps.”

But as the two star general and his wife get ready to leave, he's also looking back on his time in Albany.

“We're going to miss this place. I've had a number of folks at the church that we go to and around the workplace say that we're going to miss us and we respond by saying not nearly as much as we'll miss you,” said Maj. Gen. Kessler.

Maj. Gen. Kessler's main responsibility in Albany was overseeing the Maintenance Center -- where vehicles were rehabbed to enter the war zone. He says it's a job he takes very seriously and is very proud of.

“The moms and dads and husbands and wives of America expect the Marine Corps to do everything they can to win the war certainly, but also to ensure the safety of their loved ones and so when a marines life is perhaps saved by the actions of some of our workforce it is incredibly satisfying and extremely gratifying,” said Maj. Gen. Kessler.

He says his only regret is not having more time.

“If I had to say one thing, it’s that there is so much left undone. So much that I would like to have gotten done while I was here that is a work in progress,” Maj. Gen. Kessler.

Major General Kessler will relinquish command to Major General-select Chuck Hudson Thursday morning.
