No cases in southwest Georgia yet.
ALBANY, GA -- Samples of mosquitoes taken from midtown Savannah indicate the West Nile virus is officially in Georgia.
Although there haven't been any confirmed cases this year in southwest Georgia, Dewayne Tanner, Director of District Environmental Health in Dougherty County says folks need to take the appropriate actions to stay safe.
He says any spray containing deet is an excellent repellent.
“If you have standing water in your yard, make sure you empty it, tires, pots, pans, even the dog bowl if it's not being used very often,” said Tanner.
Tanner says the West Nile virus appears to come around in a cycle once every four years.
