ALBANY, GA -- Over the holiday weekend, the pool is a natural place to cool off, but it can quickly become a parent's worst nightmare if they don't take the correct precautions.

If you do take your child swimming somewhere, make sure there is a lifeguard on duty.

On Sundays, the YMCA pool on Gillionville Road is open to anyone from one to five.

“If they're under the age of 18, they should definitely have an adult present. Make sure they're familiar with the area; make sure they have certain safety equipment on if they're not very good swimmers,” said Isabel Fowler, a YMCA lifeguard.

Officials say it is most important to have an adult there with the child, not just an older sibling.
