Law would have banned the sale of violent games to minors

The Supreme Court has struck down a California law that would have banned the sale of violent video games to anyone under 18.

In the 7-to-2 ruling, the Court declared the law unconstitutional, citing it was too vague, and lacked as precise definition of "violence."

Amanda Cole, the manager at Video Warehouse on Old Dawson Road in Albany, said the law might have helped. "It would cut down violence in the younger youth groups, and might cut down on some crime as well." Cole said parents often rent or buy the violent games for their children.

"I really think we should really blame the parents for it because the parents should really take the time to look at all the ratings on the game before they buy it for their child," said Orlando Sappold Jr. of Albany.

A new study published in the journal Pediatrics suggests that children who watch violent images before bed may have trouble sleeping, or experience nightmares.

Georgia lawmakers tried to target violent video games almost a decade ago, but the law never passed.
