Updated with Video; Fees could add $750,000 to the Dougherty County General Fund
ALBANY, GA -- The Solid Waste Department has asked the county for a bit of a break when it comes to disposing of the debris of the Merck plant when it's demolished.
The county heard from Scott Addison on the subject.
Normally, it costs $34.76 a ton to dump at the Dougherty County landfill.
Addison requested the cost be lowered to $29.55 per ton.
Landfill revenues would go up $750,000 if they disposed at the Dougherty County landfill, which would go into Dougherty County's general fund.
“Construction demolition waste is not under ordinance to go to the Dougherty county landfill, so there are other options, Maple Hill, C & D landfill and other local landfills they could take this waste to,” said Addison.
Demolition at the plant has already begun.
