ASU students will no longer be state-mandated to take the Regents' Test
ALBANY, GA -- Albany State University has dropped the Regents’ Test, and many students welcomed the test being cut from graduation requirements.
“I think it’s a good idea. A lot of the students don’t pass the Regent’s the first time, and it’s been a struggle for them. It keeps kids from graduating college,” said Kristen McClure, a biology student. “I think it shouldn’t have been required in the first place due to the fact that it does hold people back from graduating, and proceeding on with life.”
Brandon Waters, also a biology student, echoed the same sentiment. “Thank God. It’s one less test we have to worry about as college students." Waters said students can spend more time focusing on classes in their respective majors.
The university said students’ writing skills are monitored in classes they already have to take.
The university had to apply to the University System of Georgia to be granted the exemption.
