Updated with video; School Board officials held a meeting for the public to discuss concerns about the budget for the upcoming school year.

ALBANY, GA. -- Members on the Dougherty County School Board say they have balanced the operating budget for the 2011/2012 fiscal year.

In Monday’s budget meeting, the public was given the opportunity to voice their concerns over the 190 million dollar budget.

Officials say step raises for teachers have been approved for the upcoming year, however, there will not be any raises for other school staff.

The chairman of the board says this year the school system will have to stretch the pennies farther.

“State, federal, and local money is just not there anymore,” said Dougherty County School Board Chair James Bush, “Subsequently we’re going to have to live within our means.”

School Board officials say the budget is close to the same operating amount at the 2010/2011 fiscal year.
