Updated with video; Forty teams entered for $1,000 grand prize.

ALBANY, GA. -- On Sunday, June 12, 2011 Fred's Bait and Tackle Shop on Philema Road in Albany sponsored its first Catfish Fishing Tournament.

Forty teams entered and fished the Flint River for a fish worthy of the $1,000 cash prize.

Up to five teams went home with monetary gifts but no one left empty handed. Everyone who participated took home a gift.

The director of the tournament, Jeff Freeman, said the event was about giving back.

“White’s Seafood will actually clean them for us and all the fish will be donated to the Anchorage here in town to help feed their residents,” said Jeff Freeman.

Freeman said he hope to have another tournament later this year.
