A dozen volunteers showed up for Dougherty County Court Appointed Special Advocate orientation to begin training on helping abused children
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- A volunteer orientation was held Thursday evening for those interested in helping abused and neglected children as a Dougherty County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).
Next, volunteers will go through 30 hours of in-service training and 10 hours of court observation. They will be trained on how to gather information about the child’s situation, attend court proceedings and made recommendations to the judge about needed services for the child’s future.
The CASA workers say they are not experiencing a volunteer shortage, but want enough to assign only one child to one worker.
“I'm looking for in volunteers, people that are passionate and love children and just know that I want to make a difference in a child's life,” says Evelyn Cookley, Dougherty CASA Program Director.
