Facebook fans wanted to know what type of snakes plague Southwest Georgia.
ALBANY, GA -- For FOX 31’s Facebook story of the day, viewers wanted to know what kinds of snakes cause problems in Southwest Georgia?
Chehaw Zoo officials said, since we are below the state’s cold line, we have a good amount of venomous and non-venomous snakes in the area.
They advise people to lookout for two very dangerous breeds; cottonmouths and copper heads. Both of these reptiles are poisonous.
The director of the zoo said there are a few physical traits to look for to know what type of snake you’re dealing with.
“The copper head snake has like a Hershey’s Kiss mark along the side of the belly,” said Chehaw Zoo Director Kevin Hils, “And if you see something that looks like a Hershey’s Kiss, leave that snake alone.”
Kevin Hils said one way to keep snakes away is to keep your yard clean and your grass cut low. That way the snakes won’t have anywhere to hide.
