ALBANY, GA -- Last week a would-be-robber tried to break into a downtown car dealership. Video surveillance shoes the brazen vandal practicing karate moves on the front door of Landmark Auto Sales.

Luckily he didn't get in, gave up and walked away. General Manager Paul Anthony got to work the next morning and found footprints on his front door. That's when he looked at the surveillance tape.

“We were glad we were able to put our cameras to use and find what we were looking for instead of it being a mystery,” said Anthony.

But a break-in is a worst case scenario. Experts say simply having a security system goes a long way in keeping criminals out.

“A security system is a deterrent. It's designed to keep people from coming in to your business and if they are in there it’s to let those people know that there is something in here that now we know you're there,” said Jay Carpenter of, Alarmdetect.com, an ADT security systems dealer.

It's in investment the folks at Landmark Auto made after being repeated targets of crime.

“We'd see people breaking into cars, people breaking into the storage building. People just board I guess, throwing rocks through the storage window,” said Anthony.

“The camera system. Upgrading the alarm. The extra lighting we have. The windows that are a little more secure. Those things we focused on because that's the only real solution to this,” said Anthony.

One of their most intense security measures is their electrified fence, where they keep some of their inventory. Owners say since it has been installed they haven't had anyone brave enough to try to mess with it. Despite the recent break-in attempt, now they say crime is scarce.

“Not just financially worth it, but it gives you a lot of peace of mind. We used to have things happen on a weekly basis now we don't see it hardly ever,” said Anthony.

Police say having clear surveillance also makes their job easier in making arrests. For right now they are still looking for the man that tried to break into Landmark Auto.
