The summer camp for kids at Phoebe's HealthWorks is showing kids how fitness and healthy cooking is fun
ALBANY, GA -- Kids attending Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital’s “Camp Hollywood” at HealthWorks are having fun, while learning about good health.
Children and grandchildren of Phoebe employees are participating in fitness, sports and cooking classes for the next week as a part of the summer camp. On Monday, some kids learned how to make pizza, s’mores, smoothies and salsa.
“We're trying to teach them, one, don't just sit on the couch and play video games -- you can have fun with fitness and sports -- and two, try to teach them that the foods we like, such as pizza, you can make it healthy too,” says Melissa Grubbs, Program Coordinator at HealthWorks
The kids are split up into groups and given Hollywood related names such as “Paparazzi” and “Neverland.” Each group will each make a movie relating to their team name to show to the other groups on Friday.
Grubbs says the children's summer camp at HealthWorks has grown tremendously over the last four years it has been around. She says during the first two years, the camp was available for half-day. For the third year, she says physicians asked that the children could be there for the full day (8 a.m. until 5 p.m.) and their request was granted.
Kids say they enjoy the week-long day camp and say they have a lot of fun.
