ALBANY, GA -- A new contract agreement between the Dougherty County jail and Phoebe Putney will allow the County Finance Committee to present a budget with no furlough days!

Before, the Finance Committee was considering nine mandatory unpaid holidays for all employees.

The jail has a contract with Phoebe Putney to provide healthcare to inmates and normally, the contract price would be around $1.8 million.

However, Phoebe offered to cut that price down to $875,000 in exchange for an additional year option on the contract.

That’s a savings of $930,000 that can now go back into the budget.

Col. John Ostrander of the Dougherty County Jail says this is a win-win for the jail, Phoebe, and the county.

“They have done an incredible job. We’ve seen the level of care for our inmates improve; we've seen Phoebe taking on initiatives to run our costs down,” said Col. Ostrander.

Phoebe has placed an x-ray machine at the jail to reduce costs that come with transporting inmates to the hospital.

They have also put in an order for an EKG machine for the jail.
