Board initially voted to terminate employees.
ALBANY, GA -- In Wednesday's Dougherty County School Board meeting, officials voted to re-hire two employees who had been terminated weeks earlier.
Board members who voted against reinstating the high ranking employees were left disappointed after the four to three vote came down in their favor.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Diane Daniels and Human Resources Director Tracy Williams are now back on their jobs. The Dougherty County School Board Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree said the way in which the women were fired was not proper protocol.
"Those recommendations must first and foremost come from the superintendent," said Dr. Murfree, "See the superintendent didn't make those recommendations at all."
Although the odds turned out in favor of the women, board member David Maschke stands by his decision to let them go.
"School data, student performance, test scores have not been satisfactory as far as advancing in an upward way," said David Maschke.
He said Tracy Williams has had several complaints against her from fellow employees. He said she also has had policy violations.
Maschke wanted the board to review policy before re-hiring the women, but the board also voted against that.
Dr. Murfree said he has an idea of how he is going to addressing the concerns of Maschke and other board members.
"I'm going to get with her direct supervisor and we're going to make a plan to repair what people might think is wrong," said Dr. Murfree.
