Two residential fires had Albany firefighters racing around town on Wednesday
ALBANY, GA -- Albany firefighters were busy on Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon, just short of move-in day, an Albany homeowner Larry Clark has to deal with the shed catching on fire.
Clark says his wife saw a transformer explode and the fire travel from the electrical wires to their shed in the backyard at 595 Henson Drive. Fire also took out some shrubbery in a neighboring yard.
Clark says he is fortunate that he had not moved any personal belongings into the shed yet.
Around 5:30 p.m., a grease fire brought firefighters to a residence in the 1900 block of Riverview Circle.
Albany firefighters say teenagers were cooking inside the home when flames came up from the grease.
The mother, father and two children that were inside the house all escaped safely.
"There was heavy damage to the kitchen and the dining room and the front part of the house. We got two bedrooms with minimum damage to it. Smoke damage down the hall and heavy burns down the hall," says Battalion Chief A.L. Dyer of the Albany Fire Department.
Dyer says they are planning to call Red Cross because the homeowners don’t have insurance.
