ALBANY, GA -- The Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run was held Friday and started with a kick-off ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Participants started the run about 9:00 a.m. at the Judicial Building, going down Pine Avenue, crossing over Slappey Blvd. to Dawson Road and continued until reaching Publix. The total length of the run was about 5 miles.

The torch was in Lee County and will be going to Terrell County next, part of 25 legs before the torch arrives in Atlanta next week for the start of the Special Olympics.

“This torch, the flame of hope gets all around the state, just the way the Olympic flame would in anticipation of an Olympics game opening, it just raises awareness of something big is about to happen,” said Kristin Caso, who help coordinate the run.

This was just one of the events that Albany area law enforcement participated in to raise fund for the Special Olympics. The Cops on Donut Shops Fundaiser was held at the end of April and saw officers partnering with Krispy Kreme.
