(AP) -- Georgia has received a $5 million federal grant to create temporary jobs cleaning up tornado damage from April's deadly storms.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says the National Emergency Grant can be used to hire laid-off workers to clean and repair public property. The grant funds may also be used to hire staff for public and non-profit agencies helping in the relief effort as well as counselors to help the grieving and traumatized. Butler said the U.S. Department of Labor grant "will go a long way towards helping our recovery efforts in the affected counties in Georgia."

Tornadoes that swept through the South last month killed 15 people in Georgia. Sixteen counties have been declared disaster areas. For more information, vist the Georgia Department of Labor at www.dol.state.ga.us
