Katesa Walker teaches 3rd grade at International Studies Elementary School
ALBANY, GA. -- Katesa Walker has an intense dedication to make sure all of her students succeed, and 9-year-old Tyriyonna Jordan says she appreciates her commitment. “She’s special because of everything she's done for us, the whole class, she does a lot. She’s original, she doesn't does what every other teacher does” says Jordan.
At first glance this classroom looks busy with students in groups creating art, reading, typing, and writing, but Walker says she keeps all of her students on the same page. “They’re researching, they're exploring, they're finding things, and it’s a way that we can address all of the learning styles. Everybody is working in an area that they're comfortable with and we're able to come together to obtain the same goals” says Walker.
Third grade student Yovany Bartolome says her constant encouragement is greatly appreciated because it helps him believe in himself. “She’s very hopeful and she works hard for us to learn. She teaches very well in all the subjects. We have fun and learn at the same time” says Bartolome.
Walker says the best part of her job is seeing her students accomplish things. “When they started at one point and then they're at another point. We count every milestone. It may be small, it may be really small to someone else, but it’s major to me because I know where they started. So just to see them achieve is wonderful” says Walker.
Students say she's inspirational because she inspires them to be risk takers and that being in her classroom is magical.
