Commencement speaker Dr. Rod Risley of Phi Theta Kappa says students are graduating into new hopes and spirits

ALBANY, GA -- Caps and gowns filled the Cavalier Arena Thursday evening for Darton College’s Graduation.

Executive Director of Phi Theta Kappa Dr. Rod Risley was the commencement’s keynote speaker.

“The mission that Phi Theta Kappa has as a whole is to recognize scholarly achievement at two year schools and it fits directly in with what we try to do here at Darton,” says Frank Malinowski, Facility Advisor for Phi Theta Kappa at Darton College.

In his speech to the students, Risley told a story of Harriet Tubman’s journey to freedom, saying when she crossed over she felt different but looked the same. He says when students graduate they can feel the same way.

“They have new hopes, they have new dreams, they have new spirit about them,” says Risley. “Graduates, you can no longer be yourselves the same way.”

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for students attending two year colleges.
