Set to break ground in weeks.

ALBANY, GA -- Lee County officials have decided to go forward in building a new public library.

The new library will be constructed on highway 82. The land was donated to the county back in 2004.

Officials say they are happy to build the facility.

"We are thrilled. I think the whole community will be thrilled that this project is moving forward," said the Director of the Library Claire Leavy.

Ground breaking for the new site is set to start in weeks. Construction C-G-M has been contracted to build the site.

Commissioners want the new library and conference center to create a new image for the county.

"Not only is this a need but it's a quality of life issue," said Lee County Administrator Tony Massey.

The project is estimated for completion in one year.
