Police help raise money for Special Olympics
ALBANY, GA -- For law enforcement officers they're usually protecting and serving, but Friday they put down the handcuffs and picked up a Doughnut for some fundraising.
”All over the state of Georgia at Krispy Kremes you will see, law enforcement officers and Special Olympic athletes out raising money for Special Olympics Georgia,” said Kristen Caso, who helped coordinated the event in Albany.
It's the ninth annual Cops on Donut Shops Fundraiser for Special Olympics Georgia, a sports competition for people with intellectual disabilities.
And that means if you're driving past a Krispy Kreme, expect to be hit up by an officer. Or a sheriff's deputy like Cornelius Drake.
“It's for a great cause, I just feel like if it was my loved one or my kinfolk or a friend of mine, I would want to give back to them,” said Drake.
They need some help, this year there are about 8,000 athletes competing statewide. And it costs about 150 dollars each to send them to the Special Olympics.
“This pays for their housing, helps pay for their food and even helps pay for awards and sports equipment for them,” said Caso.
Not only will you be giving back but you'll also be getting something in return, because every donation of any size comes with a free Doughnut.
