Darton College's Extraordinary Men of Distinction and Albany Police AmeriCorps held a volunteer fair to introduce students to local groups they can volunteer with
ALBANY, GA -- Darton College’s Extraordinary Men of Distinction are out to serve the community by giving students an outlet to find out how they can serve.
On Thursday, the newly established student group held a volunteer fair with the help of the Albany Police AmeriCorps to not only help organizations find volunteers, but to help potential volunteers find outlets for community service.
“We think this is important not only for the people that are here that need the volunteers, but we think it's important for the college students because it helps their resume, it helps them become a better person and it helps them to show they have an interest in the community. If we can interest college students in the community then we can interest other people in the community,” says Albany Police AmeriCorps Cadet Anna Sanders.
Numerous local community service groups – including Big Brother Big Sister, Mission Change and United Way – gathered to introduce students to volunteer opportunities.
“I think that people shouldn’t just do this for money; I think people should engage in things for the benefit of other people instead of just for themselves,” says Steven Seaton, President of the Extraordinary Men of Distinction.
