ALBANY, GA -- Updated Tuesday, April 26 at 5:52 p.m.

Joseph Moore, 28, is charged with animal cruelty after Albany police and Animal Control removed seven dogs from a Rood Road residence on Monday.

After being questioned by Criminal Investigation Bureau Detectives, Moore was charged with four counts of Cruelty to Animals. Moore also faces several Animal Control City ordinance violations.

Moore was transported to the Dougherty County Jail Monday night.

Four of the dogs were taken to the veterinarian for treatment. Officials say they had scaring from trauma which they believe could be from dog fighting.

Animal Control removed more than five dogs were removed from a home on Rood Road Monday afternoon.

They received information about a possible injured dog in the 800 block of Rood Road and found more dogs at 803 Rood Road with old and new injures when they arrived. Animal Control then called Albany police to the scene.

"One of the dogs was attacked while the animal control agent was out there but we're still doing an investigation so the in-depth of whether or not they were actively fighting them on a regular basis we haven't gotten that status yet," says Detective Schemika Foster with the Albany Police Department.

The dogs were removed from the location and taken to a vet.

APD investigators are interviewing a person of interest. Foster says that person could face charges ranging from Animal Cruelty, Dog Fighting or Inhumane Treatment.
