Facebook, Twitter offer inexpensive exposure
ALBANY, GA. -- Possible contenders for the Presidency in 2012 are embracing the internet, especially social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Minnesota’s Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty used his Facebook page to kick off his campaign for the Presidency.
And former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has taken to tweeting his criticisms of current President Barack Obama.
Local technology experts say social media offers candidates an inexpensive way to gain wide exposure in a matter of seconds.
"Global networking," said Robert Schacht of Albany Computer. "You’re able to reach people faster and in further reaches for basically nothing."
The internet can also be a useful tool for raising money.
Some analysts estimate it could cost up to one billion dollars to run for President in 2012.
