Retailers are seeing signs of growth
ALBANY, GA -- Across the country retailers are seeing subtle signs of economic improvement.
"I've definitely seen an uptick in spending a little bit more for sure," said Industrial Sales Manager Michael Mulford.
Michael Mulford works for the Shoe Box, a locally owned store in Albany. He says he's seen more spending during this past holiday season and tax season than in the past two years.
These signs suggest that America's frugal habits may be nearing an end.
In a survey done by Harris Interactive, 26 percent of adults surveyed report more spending this year. That number is up from 18 percent last year.
The survey also shows forty percent of adults say they carry a month to month credit card balance, while 33 percent say they are saving less than last year.
This may mean people are reverting back to their pre-recession spending habits.
Although signs show people are spending more, not everyone is so eager to jump on-board.
Blake McMillen says he's not spending more. While out shopping for work shoes, he prefers to stay frugal. "I'm trying to save up to get a house. I've cut back on trips in town and eating out. I'm just being more frugal with my money," said Blake McMillen.
