ALBANY, GA -- Her children encouraged her to go back to school and now Albany Technical College Student Ruby Bivens is receiving an achievement award.
Bivens received the Academic Achievement Center Award on Monday after dedicating more than 200 hours to the Math Center last quarter alone. The Early Childhood Care and Education student is continuing to build her math skills to earn her certificate.
“I had to learn the math again in order to pass the entrance exam and get into my program,” says Bivens in a press release. “The math lab staff, especially Ms. Shakitha Hadley, were always patient and willing to work with you to learn the material.”
Bivens says she also plans to earn her diploma and associate degree at Albany Tech.
She says she hopes to one day own her own daycare. Before going back to school, Bivens worked for four years at the Moultrie HeadStart.
The Albany Technical College Achievement Center opened in 2009 as a part of a Title III Grant that was awarded to them to aid learning support students in math and reading.
