Industries like P&G are not on the taxable digest

ALBANY, GA -- Several factors are contributing to a declining tax digest for Dougherty County.

Tax director Denver Hooten says big industries like Proctor & Gamble and Miller Coors make payments in lieu of taxes, and therefore are taken off the taxable digest.

“We also had some drops in other areas, residential and commercial properties. We are still settling bills from 2007, we also are under a moratorium,” Said Hooten.

Overall, the county is facing a 7.8% decrease.

The tax digest sits at $2.06 billion.
