The county received an update on the 2010 tax digest at Monday's meeting

ALBANY, GA -- Tax Director, Denver Hooten gave the county an update on the 2010 tax digest.

The digest is over $2 billion.

Presently, there's a moratorium prohibiting the raising of property taxes on anything besides new construction.

This, Hooten says, will cause the county to lose money.

“Any reduction, further reduction, in the digest is going to be significant for the county. We already are at a lower level than we were the prior year,” Said Hooten.

The state legislature is currently considering extending the moratorium.
