Sumter County law enforcement began a search for James Watkins after he walked away from a work detail on Tuesday

SUMTER COUNTY, GA -- A manhunt for a Sumter County inmate ends in Macon early Wednesday morning.

Sumter County law enforcement began a search for James Watkins after he walked away from a work detail on Tuesday. The Sumter County Correctional Institute and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office obtained information that led them to a home in Macon.

Watkins was apprehended by members of the Fugitive Squad at approximately 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
