Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation are looking for public opinion about the location, design of the new bus station
ALBANY, GA -- Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation held two public hearings Thursday afternoon and evening. They say they were looking for public input about the location and schematics for the new bus station.
G-DOT officials say they want to build the new station on the parking lot that is behind the Judicial Building downtown. If the plans are approved by the Federal Transit Administration, the new transit station could be built within two years.
Officials also say they want to make the new transit station the first LEED certified bus station in Georgia. Having LEED certification means the facility is environmentally responsible.
There have been discussions among the Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority about turning the current Albany Transportation Center on Oglethorpe into a shopping plaza.
