Cassandra Moye and her group, Deceased Daddys' Daughters put on special event honoring fathers

ALBANY, GA -- It doesn't take much to become a dad, but being a good father can be tough task.

“I feel that fathers get the just praise that is needed,” said Cassandra Moye.

Moye and her group, Deceased Daddys' Daughters put on special event honoring fathers.

“I just feel like fathers need to be uplifted, they need to know that their loved, they need to know that they are appreciated,” said Moye.

Moye started the organization two years ago, after meeting up with other women who have lost their fathers.

“We mentor at risk girls and also girls who have lost their dads. My dad always told us, as long as you have something to give, then you give and that something is love,” said Moye.

It's easy to honor someone once they're gone. And that's why this group's message is to honor these men while they are still here. Men like Melvin Lee, a father and a soldier, who was recently diagnosed with berkus lymphoma.

“I currently deployed at the time in Afghanistan,” said Lee. “And I’m like ‘cancer, no way that's possible.’ Here I am a 41 year-old male, working out and exercising rigorously, there is no way that I can have cancer.

It's a disease that put his role as dad in perspective.

“Fathers play a major role in the lives in their children. Without a father and mother's support what are they going to do? Where are they going to be? It's your guidance that guides them down that narrow path and keeps them straight,” said Lee.
