ALBANY, GA -- Southwest Georgians lined up waiting to hear the sounds of New York’s Broadway in Albany, Georgia.

“I feel privileged because I get to bring down to Albany, Georgia, some of broadways greatest stars. Not just some people who've done Broadway and sing some Broadway tunes: These are some of the best,” says producer Neil Berg. “People are going to hear the phantom the actual phantom sing Phantom of the Opera.”

New York Broadway performers came to Albany Thursday night to put on a special performance, “Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway,” to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

“I love what I do and I know how fortunate I am to be able to do it and to be able to do it for a great cause,” says Berg.

Songs spotlighted in “100 Years of Broadway” include “All That Jazz,” “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and “Phantom of the Opera.” Producer and director Neil Berg says the staying power behind songs like these is their pop-rock vibe and the emotions people connect to the songs.

“They remember where they were when they first heart it. Some say it on Broadway, some saw it with their spouses for the first time, some saw it with their children, some people remember when they went and were taken by their parents,” says Neil Berg.

He says revivals keep the classic Broadway musicals alive.

“A lot of these shows get revived constantly whether on Broadway in New York but specifically in high schools all around so they're kept alive that way from generation to generation,” Berg says.

The “100 Years of Broadway” show also celebrated 100 years of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

“It's a big deal for us to host somebody like this and enjoy their company like this but it couldn't come at a better time,” says Tom Sullivan, Senior Vice-President for Phoebe Foundation. “Hard to believe that Phoebe has had its doors open since 1911 and tonight we're celebrating the kickoff celebration.”

Money raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals helps buy special equipment and monitors as well as speech and physical therapies.
