Sheriff John Bowens may face jail time for a contempt violation

TERRELL COUNTY, GA. -- Terrell County Sheriff John Bowens may face jail time for a contempt violation.

Bowens requested to have the contempt of court verdict thrown out, however the Georgia Court of Appeals says no.

Last year Bowens was sentenced to five days in jail and a $500 fine for ignoring an order to bring multiple inmates to court.  Bowens says it wasn’t safe for one officer to transport four inmates alone.

At this time the Appeals Court has ruled that Sheriff Bowens willfully violated the order and upheld the original sentence, and says Terrell County shouldn’t pay his lawyer fees.
