Dr. Anthony Parker discusses roots, education

ALBANY,GA. -- Some Albany senior citizens heard about the personal side of the civil rights movement today from the President of Albany Technical College.

Dr. Anthony Parker spoke at the Downtown Senior Center.

He told the group about growing up in South Carolina when educational opportunities for blacks were very limited.

He credited his parents with instilling him with a “no excuses” attitude.

"I appreciate my father and mother in giving me the encouragement to believe that I could do whatever I had the talent and the drive to do," said Parker.

Parker’s grandparents were sharecroppers in a small town in Tennessee.
