AmeriCorps, Albany police and the Gang Task force help bring the love of Valentine's Day to senior citizens

ALBANY, GA -- Senior citizens got out of their rooms and, in some cases, even their wheelchairs for the third annual Valentine’s Dance at the Malone Towers.

AmeriCorpsAlbany police and the Gang Task Force helped put on the event and even got out on the floor to dance. The nursing home residents participated in contests for prizes like boxes of candy and a dozen roses.

“The purpose of this event is to get the elderly to out of their room and come down and interact with each other as well as the AmeriCorps cadets and Albany police,” says AmeriCorps Cadet Michael Allen.

The senior citizens Valentine’s Dance is a part of the AmeriCorps cadets’ senior citizens outreach and community interaction initiatives.
