ALBANY, GA -- Some Darton College students got a special history lesson Thursday.

Albany Civil Rights Institute Director Lee Formwalt stopped by the school to give a lesson on the history of the Albany Civil Rights Movement. This is one of several special lectures going on at the college as part of Black History Month.

Formwalt says it’s important for college students to learn about the civil rights movement in Albany, because many of them weren't even born when the movement was going on. “So, to talk about the events leading up to the movement, what Jim Crow life was like in Jim Crow, Georgia, these are important parts of our past that we have to understand if you want to understand what the movement was all about,” says Formwalt.

Formwalt says he is hoping to hold more discussions at the college in the future.
