Physical Science students launch rockets for a class project to test a variety of chemical engines

ALBANY, GA -- Rockets went off Wednesday, not at Cape Canaveral but Cape Darton.

As a part of their Physical Science I class, Darton College students were asked to build a rocket. The rockets were launched Wednesday afternoon to test a variety of chemical engines.

Some rockets stayed airborne for more than 40 seconds. The group with the rocket that stayed in the air for the longest time was the winner.

“The goal of the project was just to teach us about the aerodynamics about building rockets and teach us about the chemical engines we used to launch them,” says Darton student Jamieson Drew.

To inspire the students, the class watched the movie October Sky before beginning the project.
