COLUMBUS, GA -- A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was killed Saturday night in an off-duty motorcycle crash in Columbus. Deputy Robert Pierce was riding his motorcycle when his bike collided with a car.

Pierce was a deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office since May 2010. Before that, he worked for the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office.

Pierce lived in Columbus, Georgia, and is survived by his wife. He has a brother serving in the military and is stationed in Germany.

No funeral arrangements for Pierce have been announced at this time.
