ALBANY, GA -- A former Bible study teacher at Sherwood Christian Academy is heading to jail for child molestation.

After making a plea deal, Shawn Baxley, 35, will serve a two year prison sentence along with an additional 18 years on probation.

“Immediately, it's not just affecting the one child but it's affecting everybody this person had contact with, so I’m sure almost contemporaneously with whatever was reported, people started questioning their own children. That's the ripple effect when you have someone in this type of situation,” says District Attorney Greg Edwards. “That's why the state in this instance was certainly intent upon making sure justice was served.”

Baxley was charged and indicted for child molestation and sexual battery on a minor for a 2008 incident with a 13-year-old female relative. The sexual battery charge was dropped as a part of the plea agreement.

The judge also ordered Baxley to surrender his teaching license and register as a sex offender.
