ALBANY, GA -- A group of civilian marines deployed overseas Friday night.

Civilian marines from the Marine Corps Logistics Base left the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport around 5:00 Friday evening. Two were headed to Kuwait, and three to Afghanistan.

They're going to help support the warfighter by working on various pieces of machinery.

Among those going to Kuwait was Michael Cox. Cox says helping these marines really hits home for him.

“A lot of the marines are about the same age as my oldest son, between 18 and 23 and it kind of opened my eyes as to the, what I call boys and girls, but it's really young men and women that are over there fighting and dying and protecting our country,” said Cox.

Cox will get to visit family over the summer, and will end his deployment in November.
