First Presbyterian burglarized, vandalized
ALBANY, GA -- Albany police are investigating an overnight burglary at a popular downtown church.
Officials with First Presbyterian Church on North Jackson discovered the damage early this morning.
It appeared that someone kicked in the side door, ripped the alarm wiring out of the wall, and broke into a desk in the church office.
Only $25.00 in cash was missing but church staff told us they were upset that anyone would vandalize a church.
"We’re a downtown church and being a part of a downtown church means that sometimes you have to deal with a downtown crime but this is where the need is," said Rev. Garrett Andrew.
Police are still looking for the people that stole an unknown number of cigarette cartons from the Winn Dixie on East Oglethorpe early Sunday morning.
In that case, thieves also managed to bypass the alarm when they removed one of the front windows.
