County commissioners review the FY 2009-2010 financial audit
ALBANY, GA. -- Dougherty County commissioners review the fiscal year 2009-2010 financial audit at the work session Monday morning.
According to the report prepared by Mauldin and Jenkins, LLC after receiving and spending tens of millions of dollars Dougherty County has a surplus of $12 million dollars.
Most of the county’s revenue comes in at the end of the year thanks to property taxes.
Commissioners also discussed how to help the City of Albany pay for the Day Reporting Center, an alternative jail for probation violators. Dougherty County Administrator Richard Crowdis says they want to help, “Our commission has the option to do some participatory funding in a future fiscal year” says Crowdis.
Officials say he recession has affected everyone including Dougherty County, but overall they say the finances of the county are stable. “We still have a fund balance in the general fund of $12 million dollars. We’re using it each year to balance the budget, and that’s something that we would like to remedy in the future, but it’s difficult in this economy and in this recession, but we did get a good report on the audit” says Crowdis.
