The Parks at Chehaw is looking for more volunteers
Chehaw is looking for about 75 new volunteers
ALBANY, GA -- The Parks at Chehaw is looking to make some improvements.
“We want to be able to grow and expand what we do here and so within all aspects of the park, the wild animal park, natural resources facilities, the picnic groves, we have some many ways people can get involved in here,” says Zoo Director Kevin Hils.
But Zoo Keeper Samantha Sassone says in order for the park to fully thrive, more volunteers are needed. “The more volunteers, the more we’re able to accomplish. Even if it's doing some of the responsibilities the keeper might do, that gives us an hour to focus on other things maybe animal enrichment, improving the enclosure design or working with props in the exhibits” says Sassone.
Right now the park has about 25 volunteers, but the park is hoping to add many more. “I think we've been kind of limited in the past. I think I’ve been brought in to do is expand, giving anybody the ability to help in any way shape or form that we can use” says Hils.
Chehaw is looking to bring in 75 volunteers for their 75th year. Whether you want to build items or work with the animals, they're looking for anyone and everyone. “If you have a skill level or trade or a capability or maybe you just have a lot of enthusiasm that we want to tap into,” says Hils.
“Sometimes they help with diets, sometimes they help with animal observations, if they have skills like building things, we can always find uses for that,” says Sassone.
Chehaw is hosting a volunteer fair Saturday January 29, 2011 at the Creekside Education Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
